Biography

Mikael Horned, born in Linköping, Sweden, has sung on several of Sweden's prominent stages such as the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. Horned has proved himself a promising talent frequently engaged in both opera and concert repertoire.

Current and recent engagements include Marcello in Puccini’s La Boheme for Theater für Niedersachsen in Hildesheim, Antenor in Rameau’s Dardanus for Confidencen Opera & Music Festival, and Schaunard in La Boheme for Royal Swedish Opera.

Recent engagements include Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro for Royal Swedish Opera, Guard in children’s opera Snödrottningen, also for Royal Swedish Opera, and Lesbo in Handel’s Agrippina at Drottningholm in the summer of 2021, alongside an international cast headed by Ann Hallenberg in the title role.

2020 began with a production of  Falstaff in the role of Ford at the Opera House in Oslo under the direction of renowned director Stefan Herheim in a collaboration with Oslo Academy of the Arts. The premiere was however cancelled due to COVID-19. In 2019, Mikael did an acclaimed portrayal of Pluto in G. P. Telemann's Orpheus at Vadstena-Akademien, which was followed by a production of Eugene Onegin at the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm where he sang the role of Zaretsky.

Mikael graduated from the University College of Opera in Stockholm in the spring of 2020 where he studied with the American baritone Robert Hyman. During his time he worked on roles such as Ford Falstaff, Marcello La Bohème, Figaro Le nozze di Figaro, Silvio Pagliacci and Giorgio Germont La Traviata.

Other merits include scholarships from Anders Sandrews Foundation, Lisbeth Håkansson Foundation and the Freemasons of S:t Erik in Stockholm. Mikael was also semifinalist in the Ottavio Ziino International Lyric Competition and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Chamber music from Mälardalen University in Västerås, Sweden, where he graduated in 2017.
