Biography

Jake Muffett is currently an ensemble member of Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf. In the 22-23 season he sings Dr Falke Die Fledermaus, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Ping Turandot, and Harry Frommermann in the Comedian Harmonists in Concert, a tribute and recreation of the legendary Berlin based harmony-singing ensemble of the interwar period.

Jake was member of the Opera Studio at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, His company premiere was as Harry Frommermann in the Comedian Harmonists in Concert. Other roles in his two years in the Opera Studio include Don Quijote in Manuel de Falla’s Meister Pedros Puppenspiel, Steuermann Tristan und Isolde, Roucher Andrea Chénier, Fiorello Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Der Müller in Montsalvatge’s Die gestiefelte Kater.

Previous appearances include Figaro Le Nozze di Figaro (cover) and cover Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte (postponed due to Covid-19) for Welsh National Opera, Mauregato in Opéra de Baugé’s production of Schubert’s Alfonso und Estrella, and Lt. Barri in Stephen Sondheim’s Passion for the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte in Montepulciano, under the direction of Keith Warner and Roland Böer

Jake was a member of the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus for the 2016 season, covering the role of Fiorello Il Barbiere di Siviglia and performing a principle role in Glyndebourne Youth Opera’s production of Lewis Murphy’s A Garden Dream. Jake returned for the 2018 Glyndebourne Festival as a Jerwood Young Artist. During the 2018 festival Jake performed the role of the Official Registrar in Madama Butterfly. He performed the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni for British Youth Opera, the role of John Sorrell in Gian-Carlo Menotti’s The Consul and Le Marquis de la Force/ 1st Officer in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites for the Guildhall School.

Jake Muffett was born in Grantham, Lincolnshire where he attended The King’s School Grantham. He graduated from the University of York and then went on to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he completing the school’s opera programme under Dominic Wheeler and Martin Lloyd-Evans in 2018. Jake currently receives vocal tuition from John Evans. In June 2019 Jake completed a year at the National Opera Studio in London.
 
Jake has featured as a soloist at the Royal Albert Hall in London on multiple occasions performing Orff’s Carmina Burana and Handel’s Messiah for conductors such as Bob Chilcott, Ben Parry and Brian Kay. Working with The Monteverdi Choir and Sir John Eliot Gardiner Jake has also appeared as a soloist in major concert venues across Europe including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Barbican Centre, and the Royal Chapel in the Palace of Versailles.
