Biography

Forthcoming and recent appearances include Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte  at Folkoperan Stockholm, and at Uppsala Stadsteater. Also Flower Girl 3 in Wagner’s Parsifal and Dryad in Richard Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos, both at Royal Swedish Opera. And also in concert as mezzo soloist with Dalasinfoniettan in JS Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium in Dalarna.

Kari Koskinen is a mezzo-soprano, born and raised in Bjursås outside Falun, Sweden. Already as a child she fell in love with the art of opera and started singing at the age of 9. She has previously trained at the Conservatory of Music in Falun, Vadstena Song and Piano Academy and the Department of Opera at Stockholm University of the Arts.

She made her operatic debut in the summer of 2019 as the Third Lady in Mozart's The Magic Flute at Opera på Skäret in Kopparberg and has also been awarded the prestigious Joel Berglund scholarship. She has also received a scholarship from Erik Grudd's foundation and the Royal Academy of Music.

Kari completed her studies at the Department of Opera at the Stockholm University of Arts in 2023, where she sang selected roles such as the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Carmen in Carmen by George Bizet and Musetta from Ruggero Leoncavallo's La Bohème. In the spring of 2023 she he performed The Sorceress in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas and Madame de la Haltière in Jules Massenet's Cendrillon in her final examination production put on at Folkoperan in Stockholm.
