Biography

Forthcoming and recent engagements include Cimarosa's Il Matrimonio Segreto for Las Palmas Opera, as well as conducting the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and an international cast in Verdi’s Rigoletto and Un Ballo in Maschera for Opera På Skäret festival in Sweden.

At Opera på Skäret festival 2019 he was in charge of a new production of Die Zauberflöte.

At the Immling Festival 2018 he conducted two very successful new productions: Puccini’s La Bohème and Verdi’s Don Carlo.

Italian conductor, Lorenzo Coladonato, graduated from the Conservatorio G. Verdi, Milan, where he studied piano, composition and conducting. Much in demand on the operatic stages of Europe, he has made many notable debuts and has participated in master classes with conductors like Yuri Simonov, Bernard Haitink, Helmuth Rilling as well as being awarded first prize first at the fifth Blue Danube International Opera Competition (2013).

He spent almost a decade at Zurich Opera House, where in 2008, he made an impressive debut with R. Schumann’s Genoveva. During his time at Zurich, he had the opportunity to work with and learn from several world-renowned personalities; in particular, Nello Santi and Nikolaus Harnoncourt; who both have played an integral part in his artistic development.

In 2010, he became resident conductor of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he maintained for three years. 2011 saw Lorenzo make a very successful debut at the prestigious Festspielhaus Baden-Baden with the National Philharmonic of Russia and violinist David Garrett. This concert was broadcast by the German TV Channel ARD - Das Erste and it has been issued on DVD by DECCA – Universal.

Over the next years, Lorenzo made many notable debuts, including a new production of Bellini’s Sonnambula in Salzburg, Tosca in Koblenz and Puccini’s Turandot at the Bregenz Festival. Then, in 2015, he took on the role of General Music Director of the Mersin State Opera and Ballet, Turkey conducting, amongst other titles, Rigoletto, La Traviata, Le Nozze di Figaro, Eugene Onegin and Macbeth. In 2017 he made his debut with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie and conducted a Gala Concert with tenor Saimir Pirgu and Musikkollegium Winterthur.

More recently, he made his debut with Polish Baltic Philharmonic, Helikon Theatre Orchestra, Mittelsächsische Philharmonie Freiberg.

Lorenzo Coladonato is artistic director of Spoleto Music Academy, which organize master classes for singing and instrumental soloists held by internationally renowned teachers in Spoleto (Italy).

With more than 200 performed concerts, and a repertoire of more than 50 operas from the baroque era to 20th century, he is a skilled and experienced musician, who feels at home in both the symphonic repertoire and on the operatic stage. His passion for opera has led to collaborations with such singers as Vesselina Kasarova, Marcelo Álvarez, Giuseppe Giacomini, Vittorio Grigolo, Salvatore Licitra, Leo Nucci, Saimir Pirgu, Ruggero Raimondi and Erwin Schrott, on stages all over the world including Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Russia and China.

His engagements have seen him conduct many of the world’s leading ensembles, such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Opera House Orchestra, Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Musikkollegium Winterthur, Symphony Orchestra of New Russia – Moscow, the National Philharmonic of Russia, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Norddeutsche Philharmonie – Rostock, Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz, Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie – Konstanz, China National Center for Performing Arts Orchestra – Beijing, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, National Theatre Orchestra Belgrade, Orquesta de Valencia (Spain), Orquesta Sinfonica de Castilla y Leon, the Pomeriggi Musicali Orchestra – Milan.

Lorenzo Coladonato speaks Italian, German, English, French and Spanish and has a basic knowledge of Turkish.
