Matilda Sterby makes her role debut as Magda in La Rondine at Volksoper Wien

Swedish soprano Matilda Sterby makes her role and house debut on the 10th April 2024 as Magda in Puccini’s La Rondine at Volksoper Wien. This will be the Swedish soprano’s Vienna debut. She has previously performed in Austria, as La Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro at Stadttheater Klagenfurt in 2021.

The production is directed by Volksoper’s artistic director Lotta de Beer and the conductor is Alexander Joel.

La Rondine runs for eight performances, with the last performance on the 10th May.

Matilda Sterby goes from success to success. She made her Swedish major breakthrough in the Autumn of 2022 as Marenka in Gothenburg Opera’s production of Smetana’s The Bartered Bride. . Furthermore in 2022, she appeared as Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro for Staatsoper Hannover, and Amanda in Werle’s Tintomara for Läckö Slott in Sweden. In 2023 she appeared as Micaëla in Carmen and Mimi in La Boheme for Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni for Malmö Opera.

She was the winner of the The Schymberg Award 2022 in Sweden and was a finalist in the Swedish Soloist Prize earlier this year.
