Matilda Sterby sings Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen for Gothenburg Opera

Matilda Sterby sings the role of Micaëla in George Bizet’s Carmen for Göteborgsoperan in Sweden - the first opera of their 24-25 season.

This is Sir David McVicar’s classic production, revived this time around by Mattias Palm, and Gothenburg Opera’s Orchestra and Chorus are conducted by Aivis Greters.

It has been a busy Spring and Summer for the Swedish soprano, as she performed Magda in Puccini’s La Rondine at Volksoper Wien, appeared in concert for Göteborgsoperan in a Verdi Gala, and also took first prize in the Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition, and was awarded the 2024 Birgit Nilsson Stipendium.

Later this season Matilda goes on to sing Ellen Orford in Britten’s Peter Grimes for Gothenburg Opera, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte for Malmö Opera, and Contessa in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro for Volksoper Vienna.
