Tessan-Maria Lehmussaari to sing in Hela Historian concerts highlighting female composers at Confidencen, Stockholm
The soprano Tessan-Maria Lehmussaari will sing in two concerts at Confidencen baroque theatre in Stockholm as part of the Hela Historian seminar exploring female composers of opera.
From Confidencen’s website:
“Furious Amazons and jubilant horse ballet take place on stage when Den Andra Operan and Damkapellet invite you to a unique opera concert. Here, arias and pieces from operas composed by women between the years 1625–1909 are presented. The works were popular and acclaimed at the time but have later disappeared from the stage. Now these opera treasures are given new life at Confidencen. In the concert we hear selected pieces from 300 years of opera with works such as La Liberazione di Ruggiero by Caccini, the oldest preserved opera composed by a woman. Mazeppa, which is based on Lord Byron's poem about the Cossack Ivan Mazepa and Viardot's Le dernier sorcier, which was long believed to be lost forever but which was found only a few years ago.
The concert is led by Mariangiola Martello and Anna Christensson. The Opera Initiative Hela Historian (The Whole Story) is a collaboration between Den Andra Operan, Vadstena Academy, Damkapellet, Åbo Akademi and Confidencen, which also includes a Nordic seminar on how operas composed by women from history should take a place on our stages again.”
Concert duration: 2 hours including break. Concerts will be given on 28/8 at 18 & 29/8 kl. 16.
